About Us

I have been a serious photographer since 1984, and have been offering my work to the public since turning professional in 1998. My aim is to share images of nature with others who find the natural world as fascinating as I do.

When working with wildlife, I look for images that present a subject in its environment, conveying a larger story than "deer" or "eagle." My goal with landscapes is to capture the character, mood, or beauty of a particular place. Turning to flowers and plants, I move from capturing the essence of individual plants to focusing on patterns visible in nature. These are usually abstract, often overlooked, and frequently short lived.

Ice patterns and details are an especially attractive subject for me. Ice subjects generally have a fleeting existence. Rime ice (also called hoar frost) dissolves with the first rays of the sun. Time and pressure turn clear ice cloudy while snow seals it from view. My goal is to capture these special images before transformation or sublimation alters their character. The result is often striking.

I shoot in both 35mm and large format (4x5), and offer limited editions of custom-printed color photographs. I generally keep the edition size of each image fairly small, and will destroy its negative when the edition limit is reached. This provides me with a strong motivation to go out and gather more images!
