Water and ice likely carved out this cozy hole from mounds of conglomerate, i.e., boulders, cobbles and stones cemented together by sandstone. Here you can see different colored rocks just as they were laid down on a prehistoric streambed. Conglomerates make up the lower layers of rock in Parfrey's Glen, near Merrimac, Wisconsin. A sharp-eyed visitor may still catch a glimpse of the resident troll while strolling through the canyon. From 4x5 negative.
