When frost coats the trees, Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucoephalus) can generally be found in Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin. These seven eagles are perched on a tree on Eagle Island in the Wisconsin River at Prairie du Sac. The four birds lacking the characteristic white head and tail are juveniles. It generally takes four to five years for these eagles to mature, a transformation that the second bird from the left has nearly completed. From 35mm negative.
