The water-carved Cambrian sandstone is the star attraction of the Upper Dells, above the dam at the town of Wisconsin Dells (Wisconsin). However, for a few days each fall, the birch, oak and hickory trees put on their autumn colors and rival the rock formations along the river. The trees are at peak color in this view of Blackhawk Island, at the very foot of the Narrows of the Wisconsin River. From 4x5 negative.
