Ancient sandstone walls and mossy conglomerates frame the new season's leaves in the upper reach of Parfrey's Glen. This gorgeous canyon stays cool and moist through spring and summer, nurturing the moss and ferns, and an assortment of plants and trees commonly not found in southern Wisconsin. The first State Natural Area, Parfrey's Glen is part of Devil's Lake State Park, between Merrimac and Baraboo. From 4x5 transparency.
