One of the many “Gems” of Door County is Ellison Bluff State Natural Area. While the bluff face itself supports a vertical forest of white cedar, the bluff top forest consists of a mix of beech, sugar maple, red oak and white ash. In spring, Yellow Lady Slippers Cypripedium reginae) are found here in surprisingly large numbers along with Canada Mayflower, bracken ferns, and other understory plants. From 4x5 transparency.
