This photo is a study in blue: Blue heron, bluegill, blue light. This Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) has just caught a Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) on Mud Lake, adjacent to Fish Lake in Dane County, Wisconsin. The scene is bathed in blue light as the rays of the setting sun are blocked by the hills to the west. And if it can, the bluegill must be feeling rather blue, as well. From 35mm transparency.
